I only accomplish things in installments these days. Used to, I could clean the whole house in about 3 hours, but now I set goals: my goal for today is to clean (with product) one bathroom and the kitchen. So far, I have the tub scrubbed. Whew. It drove me crazy at first, but I’m learning to just let some things go now days. Those dishes can just sit until morning… or heck, the next time I get around to them. I’d rather play, read stories, and blog! Prioritize people. lol.
Well… I haven’t made it to the shadow session with Carrie Workman yet, but we are still working on it. I can’t wait; she’s such an awesome business-minded lady. I actually learn a lot from her just being her friend on Facebook. Speaking of Facebook, as much time I’ve waisted playing on there, I’ve been able to expand my business tremendously. So in the long run, guess it was worth all the time spent being bored and preggo.
All things business… I’ve been battling how to incorporate CDs of images into my pricing. Being that we live in the digital world, it has become a must, but I just have to figure it out. I’m leaning towards making it an incentive somehow– if you purchase $X in prints, you can purchase the CD for an additional $X. Who knows!?! AHHH. But really folks, a photographer’s livelihood is based on session fees and prints which pay for EXPENSIVE equipment, time spent traveling/ editing/ storing/ photographing/ professional development etc. For the whole run down, check out this post. One of these days I’ll be able to successfully say I have paid myself because everything I make now days is dumped right back into my biz. Still living on one income. And yes, you have to crawl before you walk, BUT… you still have to successfully make yourself walk which cannot be done without MOOLAH.
This reminds me of an article I read recently about how a photographer is successfully making six figures in just four years. HOW IN THIS WORLD? It’s encouraging to read articles like this, but discouraging too. HOW, how, how? You always hear what they are doing now with their biz, but never how they got to that point. Basically, what I always read is how photographers raise their prices dramatically while dropping the number of sessions which increases sales because it caters to higher income clients. They had to crawl before they walked too right? But… four stinking years? We’ll see where I am in four years. “I MUST have confidence” is what I continually tell myself!
I am leaving you with this capture of Sandhill Cranes that I managed to snap during the 08/09 migration in TN.
