Duke Power Foundation in cooperation with the Palmetto Conservation Foundation is sponsoring a series of waterfall hikes. My daddy has been contracted as the tour guide for the series, and I was able to attend the first hike Oct. 18 to Spoonauger Falls and King Creek Falls in Oconee Co. It is free of charge and makes for an AWESOME outing. I’m just glad I was able to combine 2 things I LOVE… nature and photography!
As a side note… I’m just heartbroken at the state of the Eastern Hemlocks. The hemlocks are being attacked and killed by the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid. They are now a dying species and I’m sure we will notice a change to the mountainous ecosystem with time. Here is a picture I captured which shows the amount of daylight now visible from the forest floor due to the dying hemlocks.
