USC’s 2012 Love Story Wedding | Columbia, SC Wedding Photographer

Weddings

18 May

Each year the  College of Hospitality Retail and Tourism Management at the University of South Carolina (USC) reward one lucky couple with a no-cost wedding if the couple agrees to surrender all the planning over to the students.  2012 was the first year I had even heard of this; and when contacted to second shoot with another local photographer, I was more than willing to become part of this!  “Giving back” with my talents has been on my mind so much this year, so naturally I jumped on the chance to help out!  I am simply blown away at the love this community bestowed upon this couple!  And what a beautiful wedding they had!!!  Many thanks to Ashley Uhl Photography for having me on as your second shooter!  Here are just a few of the lovely images from the big day!  Enjoy.

The wedding and reception all took place at the Inn at USC in Columbia.  It was a gorgeous setting no doubt! Consult with Island Event Planners if you are planning a wedding too.

Bridal Portrait

While Ashley spent time with the bride and her maids, I got to know the groom and his men!  🙂  Here he is reading his love note!

Everything was donated for this event. And I mean EVERYTHING! Here is the bouquet, part of the beautiful job done by the florist. Wish I would have written down who it was so I could link to them! eek.

Now… I’ve seen some sharp groomsmen in my day, but these fellas… well, judge for yourself! Simply Ah-dorable!!! And so fun to photograph!!!

Now, Ryan and Emily have actually been married for a couple of years, just never had a traditional ceremony. On this day, they renewed their vows to one another and were just as much in love as some of the ‘newlyweds’ I’ve photographed! VERY deserving couple for sure. I just loved them!

See???!!! They were smitten!

I just adored Emily’s shoes! Wedding and reception awesomeness!

Now… I’ll just say here that I can’t believe my camera didn’t break after taking this shot. LOL Only kidding. While my blood runneth orange (Clemson fan at heart to all my non SC readers), I guess it wouldn’t have been a complete USC Love Story without Cocky gracing us with his presence!
Cocky

Oh boy did I have fun this night!  Ryan and Emily, it was such a pleasure to be a part of something so special;  I wish you both all the best!

Stay in the know!

I love experiencing ‘firsts’ with my child; always have. And that doesn’t stop when they are teenagers. 🥰 February 21, 2026 was Gus’ first reenactment- the Battle of Aiken! You can tell by the black powder on his face, too, as that is the initiation. 😁

He planned for this day for a year. One of his buddies briefly mentioned after the 2025 one that they should look into being involved. Well, that conversation sparked a drive in this boy! Although the friend didn’t go onto being involved, Gus knew he would! So he saved up some money and purchased his gear.

At the last minute, the unit he was originally registered with backed out of attending due to potential bad weather. So that left us scrambling. We told him not to worry and to just pack the vehicle with all his gear and we would just drive on to Aiken and figure it out when we get there. 😅 And by divine intervention, I’m sure of it, he ended up with the most wonderful unit of reenactors that he will continue with now, for years to come. 🙌🙏

PS: he had his heart set on representing the South, but his unit was drafted to portray Union federalists at the last minute. 🤪

A couple weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to get away for a couple days with my grandma, mama, and two of my aunts! Such a blessing!!! 💜 We perused the beach for shells and at night played the game ‘Taco, Goat, Cat, Cheese, Pizza’ (there were only two games provided in the house 🤣); all of us came away with some type of bruise. 🤣 We also had the Stone family famous shrimp ‘n grits for breakfast one morning! This trip was such a treasure!

These fellas had a heckuva start to their fishing tournament season this past Saturday. 😅 First, their typical boat captain was under the weather, so had to play switch-a-roo on boat *and* captain. Then, about 11am during the tournament the boat they were in broke down, leaving them only the section of the lake they could access with the trolling motor. Thankfully, a fellow team boat captain (and our church pastor!) was able to return his anglers to weigh-in, then make the run across the lake to snatch up these two fellas and get them to the dock in time for weigh-in. SHEW Y’ALL! 😅😵‍💫 They still managed 4 of the 5 fish limit with 10.04 lbs. 🙌
