So I’ve been reading the blog of Jasmine Star… or rather her old blog. How neat it has been to be able to read the thoughts of a photographer, and to be able to, whew, wipe my brow that I am not the only one that has had thoughts such as, “will my photos ever look as good as these other photographers or will I ever have a thriving business in this craft I love and have a passion for?” I’ve decided that I will try and blog not only about random personal experiences or sneak peek photo sessions, but also about the experiences I’m having in building a business so that maybe, just maybe, some aspiring photographer like myself can look back and say the same thing I just did about j*. Plus it just helps me stay focused when I write stuff down; I mean, you are reading about someone that makes lists for EVERYTHING– groceries, what to pack for vacations, what I need to blog about etc. And it makes me feel like I am accomplishing something to to be able to strike items off my list.
So to start us off… I’m really excited about tomorrow! For one, I will be shadowing Carrie Workman and will be able to pick her brain about how she does what she does as a businesslady! Then, on to an order appointment with a client. Being that I do not have a studio, nor will I have one at my house right now due to the lack of a professional space, I’ve been loading up the laptop and slideshow and venturing to the client rather than them coming to me. However, one of these days, I will have a special place clients can come to see their images projected and be able to enjoy themselves and relax to complete the experience. I have to add a little shout out here to my wonderful hubby who has been looking after little man a lot lately for me to pursue my photography.
This is my ultimate goal as a photographer: my husband and I will have some property that we can manage– he for wildlife habitat and hunting (well, I’ll have to get in on the bird hunting too of course); me for a natural studio! For example, to have doves become interested in your fields, plant them full of sunflowers! Now how awesome is a big dove fry… I mean… are photos taken in an endless field of sunflowers? lol. Well, they are awesome to me, but that’s just because I’m the outdoorsy type of girl! And I love taking action photos of the fellas in the fields with their hunting dogs! We could manage a duck impoundment, have the right clientele in for a hunt and take photos of them at the same time. Hence the tree as part of my logo. Trees are my fav folks. I’m not a tree hugger, but I do love them and view them as a renewable resource not exhaustible… that is, behind a conservative mind rather than preservative.
I was recently reminded that I need to learn to say “I’m a photographer” out loud with a straight face. If you can’t say it and believe it, you can’t expect anyone else to, either. Here is a list of advice for every aspiring photographer. Good stuff.
And… I will try and blog once a week. I promise. I’m a little busy bee with a 5 mth old and a 29 yr old right now, which is where I’m meant to be first and foremost. Thank you Lord for my sweet little family!
And since I love photography and all things nature… here is a wildflower we were so graciously blessed with this Spring that I captured and haven’t been able to post yet. Enjoy!
